On-site courses at our SMCC South Portland Campus as well as online options are available.

Property Management

This specialized training program is the place to begin your property management career or gain specialized knowledge to continue in this profession. This course is designed to cover professional topics key to the property management industry including: Administrative Functions, Occupancy Law and Legal Issues, Resident Satisfaction, Financial Reporting & Responsibility and Physical Plant Operations. Upon completion, you will have a solid understanding of the responsibilities, functions and skills necessary for a successful career in property management.

Real Estate

Real Estate Sales Agent

This self-paced, distance learning course is approved by the Maine Real Estate Commission and is designed to prepare students to take the Maine State Sales Agent exam. This course will include Maine license law, real estate law, projecting income, working with buyers and sellers, valuing real estate, closings and many other topics pertinent to the real estate profession. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will qualify to take the state exam.

Home Inspection Certification Online

The ASHI@HOME Home Inspection Training Program is for anyone who wants to start a career as a home inspector. This course is a thorough and complete education in all areas of the home inspection field. The Program is backed by ASHI, America’s most respected home inspection association and the only association recognized as a certifying body by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

Bartending

Designed locally by a lifelong bartender and restaurant owner, this course will provide all the information needed to start bartending and earn extra money in your spare time or begin your professional career.  This course will provide instructions on how to set up a bar, use of different types and sizes of glasses, how to order spirits, keep count of inventory and general costs, plus control of a bar/lounge and the proper way of mixing drinks.  You will also learn where to find the top-paying jobs.

Legal Skills

Paralegal Certificate

This intensive, nationally acclaimed program is designed for beginning as well as advanced legal workers. Students will be trained to interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. This program will help students increase their office’s efficiency, productivity, and billable hours as well as learn new marketable job skills.

Advanced Paralegal

These advanced topics build upon the nationally acclaimed Paralegal Certificate Course©. These classes are available to students who wish to build upon their knowledge of law and paralegal studies with classes in specialized facets of contemporary law.

Legal Nurse Consultant Training

This exciting program prepares Registered Nurses and Physician’s Assistants for a career in the legal field as legal nurse consultants. Building on the medical education and clinical experience of RNs and PAs, this course provides the RN and PA with fundamental skills necessary to advise law firms, health care providers, insurance companies and governmental agencies regarding medically related issues and to appear in court as expert witnesses.

Legal Secretary

This intensive program is designed for both beginning and experienced secretaries who are interested in improving their skills and working more efficiently within the law office.

Legal Investigation

This course is designed to teach legal investigation to those interested in pursuing a new career and those presently working in the legal field. At the end of the course, students will be qualified to assist attorneys, paralegals, insurance companies and private businesses, as well as state and federal government agencies, in the process of civil and criminal investigation.

Employment Law

Employment law is a branch of contract law that deals with relationships between employers and employees. This course will cover statutes such as the National Labor Relations Act, the Railway Labor Act, and other various statutes dealing with public employees.

Public Safety Telecommunicator

This course is designed to prepare students for emergency telecommunicator duties, to meet the requirements of the NFPA 1061 Professional Qualification Standard for Public Safety Telecommunicator I, as well as meeting the State of Maine statutory requirement for those employed at public safety dispatch centers in Maine.

Policies
Payment
Payment in full is due upon registration. Payment can be made by cash, check, money order, VISA, MasterCard or Discover.
 
Refunds
To receive a 100% refund, students must cancel their enrollment by contacting the Continuing Studies Department at least seven business days before the start date of the course. There is no partial refund. If a course is canceled by the college, the course fee will be 100% refunded.
