Sailing & Seamanship
This basic two-part course, taught by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary teaches pleasure sail boaters safe boating practices, principles, and legal responsibilities. Part 1 will cover the same material as Boating Skills and Seamanship. Successful completion of this part of the course earns students a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) certificate of completion.
Boating Skills & Seamanship Part 1
This course, taught by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, teaches pleasure boaters safe boating practices, principles and legal responsibilities. Students receive a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) certificate of completion at the end of the course that is recognized as a Boating Safety Certificate by all states currently requiring this certificate to boat in their state.
Boating Skills & Seamanship I & II
Pleasure boaters will learn safe boating practices, principles, and legal responsibilities. Students receive a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) certificate of completion at the end of the course.
Boating Weekend Navigator
Weekend Navigator will focus on navigation in the digital age, along with the timeless techniques of classical navigation so that you never have to rely solely on electronics. You will learn how to use such tools as a GPS receiver and chart plotter as well as read nautical charts, plot courses, take bearings and the other techniques upon which all navigation is based.
Art & Photography
Digital Photography: Beyond Auto Mode
This course serves as an introduction to photography with a digital camera. Emphasis is placed on fundamental techniques of a digital camera with manual function and image file editing. The course will cover use and manipulation of aperture, shutter speed and light meter to affect proper exposure, depths of field (DOF) and stop/blur motion.
Digital Photography: Beyond Auto Mode 2
Building on concepts and techniques introduced in Digital Photography: Beyond Auto Mode 1 – topics to include: manual mode, focus, depth of field, RAW/TIF/JPG format; compositional lighting, metering modes & exposure. Students will be guided through additional shooting techniques, post-production editing and image adjustment.
Bartending
It’s fun. It’s social! And it can be very lucrative! Designed locally by a lifelong bartender and restaurant owner, this course will provide all the information needed to start bartending and earn extra money in your spare time or begin your professional career. This course will provide instructions on how to set up a bar, use of different types and sizes of glasses, how to order spirits, keep count of inventory and general costs, plus control of a bar/lounge and the proper way of mixing drinks. You’ll also learn where to find the top-paying jobs.
