Medical professionals are in high demand. Get the training you need to start a career as a phlebotomist, pharmacy technician, dental assistant and more. SMCC classes are accessible and affordable and can get you started on the way to a new job in as few as 8 weeks. Our affordable classes are taught by talented instructors who are experts in their field. On-site courses at our SMCC South Portland Campus as well as online options are available.

Courses that are frequently offered include.

This course prepares individuals for entry-level positions obtaining blood samples from patients. Topics include terminology, anatomy, laboratory math, blood composition, infection control and hands-on phlebotomy training using needles, syringes, vacutainer tubes and other equipment.

Pharmacy Technician

This online program is instructor led and the instructor will be available to assist with questions and provide support throughout the program. After successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to take the PTCB national certification exam. This program is active for one year from date the of the activation, which allows students the time to successfully complete the program and to review up until the day they sit for the exam.

Dental Assistant

This program is designed to teach all aspects of dental assisting and provide the skills required to work in this field and pass two national certificate exams and earn a CPR certification. This program is taught by a Certified Dental Assistant ™ and includes an opportunity for internships.

BLS for Health Care Providers

This course teaches CPR skills, use of AED, and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. This course meets the requirements for SMCC Allied Health students preparing for clinical rotations.

Payment in full is due upon registration. Payment can be made by cash, check, money order, VISA, MasterCard or Discover.
To receive a 100% refund, students must cancel their enrollment by contacting the Continuing Studies Department at least seven business days before the start date of the course. There is no partial refund. If a course is canceled by the college, the course fee will be 100% refunded.
