Short-term Training That Leads to Employment

SMCC offers short-term workforce training to qualified applicants who are looking to gain job skills that lead to a new or better career. Many of these opportunities are grant-funded (free of charge to attendees) and some even offer attendance incentives. Programs are offered throughout the year and new offerings are added frequently.

AMAZON WEB SERVICES CLOUD PRACTITIONER TRAINING

Grant-funded. Free of charge to trainees.
Are you interested in learning software development skills to enhance your career or start a new one? If so, this course could be for you. Upon successful completion, students will be prepared to take the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Exam. Get more info now!

Grant-funded. Free of charge to trainees.
This course includes the skills you need to be able to develop, deploy, and modernize applications on AWS. You’ll have the opportunity to gain the skills neccessary to enter a career as a developer, engineer, or DevOps engineer. AQUACULTURE

The Construction Institute provides easy-to-access short-term training in five core construction skills. Start your career now or apply these courses toward a college degree. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION BOOTCAMP

Grant-funded. Free of charge to trainees.
Earn 40 professional development hours OR three college credits. Learn about valuable topics like developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum and classroom design, partnerships with parents, teaching and learning, observation and assessment, and more!  Get more info now!

EDUCATOR APPRENTICE PROGRAM

Grant-funded. Free of charge to trainees.
Designed for those who want to become Education Technicians, this program allows you to EARN WHILE YOU LEARN as a school employee within a Cumberland County school or MSAD 15. Earn experiential credit working in the classroom while also completing coursework one to two evenings per week! ELECTRIC VEHICLE REPAIR

Grant-funded. Free of charge to trainees. 
Topics covered include, high-voltage (HV) safety, key services that you can perform on all EV’s including battery repair, failure modes associated with systems and components, testing and diagnostic techniques. Get more info now!

EMT TRAINING

Grant-funded. Free of charge to trainees. 
Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation through lectures, practical labs, and clinical experience. Upon successful course completion, students are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exams, at the EMT level. Get more info now!

ADVANCED EMT TRAINING

Grant-funded. Free of charge to trainees. 
Learn basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients accessing the emergency medical system. Students must possess the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation.  Get more info now!

MANUFACTURING TECHNICIAN TRAINING

Grant-funded and Incentive for Attendance.
In partnership with General Dynamics – Bath Iron Works. Get training in blueprint reading, technical math, hand & power tool operation and safety, operation of air tools, oxy cutting, tack welding, basic layout, lifting & material handling, drilling, fastening and more. MARINE DESIGN TRAINING

Grant-funded and Incentive for Attendance.
In partnership with General Dynamics – Bath Iron Works. This grant-funded training program will provide you with the skills you need to become a Marine Designer. Learn how to perform marine design activities, resolve design-related problems, develop ship alteration drawings, electronically draft installation and fabrication drawings, extract computer-aided manufacturing data and more. MEDICAL ASSISTANT APPRENTICESHIP

In partnership with MaineHealth
This grant-funded, accelerated program will provide you with paid, on-the-job training and mastery of MA skills learned in the classroom. Participants will work part-time in a physician practice while attending class at SMCC, perform their externship hours, and prepare to take their CMA or RMA exam upon completion of the program. PHLEBOTOMY SCHOOL - NORDX

In partnership with Maine Health/NorDx
Learn to be a Phlebotomist in just 6 weeks, while you get paid full-time. This course is designed to provide students with the clinical knowledge and competency to become a highly-skilled Phlebotomist and the opportunity to earn while you learn. Students who successfully complete the course will be hired in a Phlebotomy position at one of NorDx’s various sites. Get more info now!

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION ONLINE

SMCC is providing 500 FREE Professional Education Online licenses (grant-funded) to qualified applicants. These online courses give you the opportunity to advance your career on your own schedule. Access over 5,000 noncredit online courses and certifications in areas like business, customer service, data and analytics, desktop publishing, digital skills, finance, HR and legal, IT, marketing and digital skills, and more!

SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST TRAINING

Offered by Maine Medical Center School of Surgical Technology.
This program provides the support, guidance, and tools you need to begin a successful career as a Surgical Technologist and prepares highly qualified and motivated students to be members of a modern surgical team. Get more info now!

YAMAHA OUTBOARD MOTOR REPAIR TRAINING

Grant-funded. Free of charge to trainees.
Get classroom learning and concentrated hands-on training on multiple Yamaha outboard motors ranging from F20-F200.
